Depending on the equipment present in the host company’s building, there may be opportunities for energy savings in equipment beyond that discussed in Chapter 7. Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory conducted an audit of 16 buildings and found that, in large offices (totaling 30,000 square feet or more), for every 2 kWh used by office equipment, another 1 kWh is used by miscellaneous equipment.1 The following are the top ten users of energy in their survey:


If the host company is using a significant number of these machines, it may be advantageous to replace equipment with more energy-efficient versions.
